OBITUARIES |
|
Patricia Dailey Johnson,
80, of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, after a long illness.
She was an avid supporter of the Desert Journal, being the mother of the
publisher. She was born April 10, 1925, in Indianapolis, IN, to
Elizabeth Vogt and Joseph L. Dailey Sr. She moved with her family to
New Mexico when she was six months old and was a resident of Albuquerque most of
her life. She graduated from Sandia Girls School in Albuquerque and
Smith College in Massachusetts.

She was a social
worker and health planner with the State of New Mexico Department of Health
and Human Services for many years, retiring in 1987. She was known
throughout the state for her work.
As past state president of the New Mexico Chapter
of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), her main
pursuit was universal health care coverage for all. She was honored with
the Silver Horizons New Mexico 2002 Senior Hall of Fame Award (pictured
above) and recognized for her lifetime commitment to community service.
As a senior advocate, she had said it's issues like the lack of universal
health care in this country that drove her to work hard on behalf of all
New Mexicans, young and old.
She enjoyed
traveling during her early retirement and playing bridge and other card
games with her many friends. She supported the Albuquerque Little
Theatre, Albuquerque Civic Light Opera and Albuquerque Zoo. She
attended the Hillside Community Church at Jefferson and Zuni SE.
Survivors include
her four sons, Gregory F. Johnson and wife Clara, Martin D. Johnson,
William L. "Bill" Johnson and wife Teresa of Desert Journal fame, and
Steffen R. "Bert"
Johnson, all of Albuquerque; her brother, James F. Dailey of Toledo, OH;
her sister, Pamela D. Gatschet of Syracuse, NY; her grandchildren,
Allison Thompson and husband Matt, Amber and Courtney Johnson, and Joshua L. Ebberts; her
great-grandchildren, Paris Ebberts, Veruca Morgan and Stewart Morgan;
numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends. She was preceded
in death by her brother Joseph L. Dailey Jr. in 1989, and her granddaughter Gina
M. Ebberts in June 2004.
Viewing will be from
4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal
Ave. SE,
where a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug.
27, with Pastor Chuck Kofahl of Tramway Community Church officiating.

Gina Marie Ebberts,
21, of Truth or Consequences, NM, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at her
home.

She was born May 6, 1983, in Wichita, KS,
to Teresa Carol (Cassady) and Howard Ebberts. She attended Geronimo
Springs High School in T or C and during her younger years she was a
member of the ZoyE Pappas Tap Dance Class, which held community
performances, and the T or C Dolphins Swim Team.
She
was a retail clerk most recently at the Circle K convenience store in T or
C and previously at the Williamsburg Chevron. She also had worked at
McDonald’s and at T-R-C Big-A-Burger in T or C. She was the main
distributor about a year for the Desert Journal - which she named for her
parents, the publishers, at age 12 in September 1995 - until the weekly
newspaper folded in May last year.
Survivors include her three children, Paris Ann Ebberts, 5, Veruca Violet
Morgan, 21 months old, and Stewart Ray Morgan, two months old; her
husband, Justin L. “J” Morgan, all of Truth or Consequences; her parents,
Teresa C. and William L. “Bill” Johnson of Albuquerque; her
parents-in-law, Lyle R. and Linda S. Morgan of Buckeye, AZ; her brother,
Joshua L. Ebberts of Socorro, NM; her maternal grandparents, Marcella and
Gene Loyd of T or C; her paternal grandmother, Pauline Ebberts of Towanda,
KS; her grandmother, Patricia D. Johnson of Albuquerque; her uncles and
aunts, Ray Cassady of Dolores, CO, Carry and Kathy Cassady of Dolores, CO,
Bruce Cassady of T or C, Greg and Clara Johnson, Martin Johnson and Bert
Johnson, all of Albuquerque; her many cousins; and
many close friends.
She
was preceded in death by her grandfather, Gene Ebberts; and
great-grandmother, Lois Magness.
Viewing will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, June 21, at French Mortuary
of Truth or Consequences, NM, with private memorial services to be held at
a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the fund of
Gina’s children (to be established). Arrangements are by French Mortuary

David Douglas, 62, a
resident of Truth or Consequences the last 10 years, died Sunday, May 23,
2004, at Sierra Vista Hospital. He
was born May 14, 1942, in Houston, TX, to Garfield James and Dorothy
Arline (Rickert) Douglas. He
was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a certified welder and master mechanic
most of his life. He married
Ruth M. Romero on May 16, 1988, in Albuquerque, NM.
He enjoyed wood work and fishing.
He and his wife moved to T or C in 1994.
Survivors
include his wife, Ruth, of the T or C home; two sons and one daughter,
David Douglas, Charles Douglas and Peggy Douglas, all of Oklahoma City,
OK; two brothers, Ronald E. Douglas and wife Joann of Albuquerque, and
Charles Douglas and wife Carol of T or C; his sister, Sharon Beigel and
husband Dave of California; a grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother, Lynn Douglas.
Visitation
will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the Sierra
Funeral Home in T or C. Graveside
funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at Vista
Memory Gardens Cemetery in T or C with Rev. Mike Skidmore officiating.

Weltha
Estella Palmer, 82, died
May 16, 2004, at her brother’s home in Williamsburg, NM, after a long
illness. She was born June
21, 1921, in Senorito, NM to Winfred Barnabus and Frances Winifred
(Stubbs) Bletcher. She
married John Kelsey Palmer on April 2, 1954, in Truth or Consequences, NM.
The homemaker was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of
Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary and the Presbyterian Church in
Springerville.
Survivors
include her husband, John K. Palmer of Springerville, AZ; two step-sons,
Ryan Palmer and Lee Palmer, both of Springerville, AZ; her brother, Gerald
W. Bletcher of Williamsburg, NM; two half sisters, Rose Mary Gallegos and
Lillie Gallegos, both of Cuba, NM; and a step sister, Norris Hinkel of
Organ, NM; three step-grandchildren; and one great-step grandchild.
She was
preceded in death by her parents and brother, Leonard B. Bletcher.
Memorial
services will be held at a later date in Springerville, AZ.

Rosendo
C. Valenzuela,
88, of Truth or Consequences, died Sunday, May 9, 2004.

He
was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Las Palomas, Sierra County, NM, to Ascension
and Elvira (Chavez) Valenzuela. He
married Mary Armijo on Feb. 14, 1941, in Las Palomas.
He was a building inspector for the City of Truth or Consequences
and the Village of Williamsburg for more than 35 years.
He enjoyed gardening, especially growing rosebushes and fruit
trees. He also enjoyed
watching old western movies especially those featuring John Wayne.
He was an avid Bingo player while residing at the Sierra Health
Care Center.
Survivors
include his two sons, Sonny Valenzuela and wife Eva of T or C, and Jesus
Albert Valenzuela and wife Ilene of Las Vegas, NV; his daughter, Connie
Brahm and husband Robert of T or C; his two sisters, Erlinda and Angela;
14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in April 1988; his
daughter, Lupe Lopez; his two brothers, Jose and Rumaldo; and his sister,
Cornelia.
Visitation
will be held today (Tuesday, May 11) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and again on
Wednesday, May 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sierra Funeral Home in T or C. Prayer
vigil and rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Catholic Church in T or C, where Mass of Christian burial
also will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13, with Revs. Art
Roberts and Sean Garrity, officiating.
Pall bearers will include his grandsons, Chris Brahm, Michael
Lopez, Richard Lopez, Zane Miller, Steve Valenzuela and Victor Valenzuela.
Honorary pall bearers include Eddie Armijo, Herman and Sugar Armijo
and his grandchildren. Concluding
services and interment will follow at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery in T
or C where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.
The OLOPH Bereavement Committee will provide a luncheon immediately
after the services. Arrangements
are by Sierra Funeral Home in T or C.

Jeanne
Belle Rothwell, 81, a
resident of Truth or Consequences since 1983, died Saturday, May 1, 2004,
at Sierra Vista Hospital.

She
resided at the Sierra Health Care Center.
She was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Long Beach, CA, to James Christopher
and Anna Elizabeth (Hall) Barlet. She
was a wedding chapel director in Reno, NV, and owned a thrift store in
Love Lock, NV. She lived many
years with her son, Frank Bakken, on Hackberry Lane before his death in
2000. She was a member of The
Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.
Survivors
include her daughter, Patty Leona Garrison-Metzger of Glen Carbon, IL; her
three sons, Don Clyde of Vermillion, SD, Chris Clyde and Tom Clyde, both
of Carson City, NV; her two sisters, Myrtle Ruth Richards of Corsicana,
TX, and Ann Elizabeth Mesenbrink of Sebastopol, CA; her two brothers,
James Christopher Barlet of Sonora, CA, and Jim Barlet of North Powder,
OR; 36 grandchildren; and more than 60 great-grandchildren.
No
local services are planned at this time.

Adam
R. Murr, 76, of Truth or Consequences, NM, died
Wednesday, April 21, 2004.

He was born June 2, 1927, in Junction, TX, to
Roland and Mae (Becker) Murr. The
U.S. Army veteran worked most of his life as a large equipment operator in
roadwork. His work required him to live and travel all over America.
He was a loyal and devoted Dallas Cowboy football fan and enjoyed
hunting and fishing in his spare time.
Survivors include his wife of more than 25
years, Carol L. Murr, of the family home in T or C; her brother, Alton
Murr, and his wife Charlotte of Junction, TX; two sisters, Naomi Low of
Junction, TX, and Lillie Ray of Linden, TX; her two stepsons, William L.
Atzhley and wife Wanda of Rexburg, ID, and Ronald Atzhley of Ashton, ID;
her stepdaughter, Cynthia Jordon, and husband Pat of Gillette, WY; 13
step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.
No local services are planned at this time.

R. Edwards, 77, of Elephant Butte, died Monday,
April 19, 2004, at her home. She
was born May 31, 1926, in Douglas, AZ, to Thomas Markham and Eula Mae
(Pittman) Brown. She was a
member and past president of the Sierra Health Care Center Ladies
Auxiliary. She was an avid
gardener and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her husband, James Fabris of
the family home in Elephant Butte; her two sons, Joe Heidrick and wife
Kathy, and Jim Edwards; her brother, Gerald R. Brown and wife Eulalie; her
sister, Eula Markham Shinn; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Bill Heidrick.
Private services will take place at a later

Charles
J. “Chuck” Laudick,
71, a resident of the Truth or Consequences area since 1994, died Sunday,
April 11, 2004, in Illinois.

He
was born Sept. 10, 1932, in Columbus, OH, to Rayner J. and Eva M. (Chesler)
Laudick. He attended St.
John's Grade and High School in Delphos, OH, and Ohio State University in
Columbus. He served three
years in the U.S. Army’s Airborne Division.
He spent time in Korea on the front lines and received several
medals there. After 33 years
in the newspaper business he retired in Beardstown, IL, as a publisher of
Beardstown Newspapers. While
living in T or C, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
3317 in Williamsburg and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in T
or C. He was married to his
wife Delores for the last seven years.
He is survived by six children.
Private family graveside services were held
Friday, April 16, at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery in T or C.
Local arrangements were by Sierra Funeral Home of T or C.

Dean Williams,
71, of Truth or Consequences, died Thursday, April 15, 2004, at the New
Mexico State Veterans Home. He
was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Cherryville, MO, to William Marshall and Edna
Daisy (Fann) Williams. He
U.S. Navy veteran served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a self-employed radio and television repairman most of his
life.
Survivors include his two sons, Keith Dean
Williams of Houston, TX, and Terrence A. Williams of Bastrop, TX; three
brothers, Wilburn Willis Williams, Robert Dale Williams and Herman Neal
Williams; and two sisters, Virginia Lee Johnson and H. Joann Heilman, all
of Illinois.
Private graveside services were held at the Fort
Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX.

Billy
J. Clark, 78, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, April 14, 2004, at the
Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM.

He was born Feb. 6,
1926, in Mimbres, NM, to Samuel J. and Lucy (Tabb) Clark.
The U.S. Navy veteran served during World War II as a technician in
the 65th Transportation Corps Harbor Craft Company.
He was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good
Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
He was self-employed in the ranching business.
He was a member of the Rio Grande Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.
3317 in Williamsburg. He
loved the mountains and his horses and will be fondly remembered as an
ole' gentlemen cowboy.
Survivors include his three daughters, Laursie Looney and husband
Raymond of Las Cruces, NM, Marcy Almansour and husband Hassan of Calgary,
Alberta, Canada, and Donna Stratton of Florida; three sons, Samuel Clark
of Texas, George Clark of Caballo, NM, and Patrick Barnes and wife Adriana
of Alamogordo, NM; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the Caballo
Community Church in Caballo with Rev. Jim Wood officiating.
A luncheon will follow the services at the church.
Private family burial will take place later that day at the Las
Palomas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sierra Funeral Home of Truth or
Consequences.

Sadie Bero,
79, of Elephant Butte, died Monday April 12, 2004, at her home.
She was born to Aug. 18, 1924, in Lincoln, NE, to Dewey H. and
Sadie M. (DeCelle) Bero. She
was employed as a nurse in hospitals and nursing homes most of her life.
She enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling.
She was an active member of the Church at the Butte for many years.
She is survived by her sister, Naomi D. Rauscher
of Green Bay, WI.

J. Maksa,
77, of Truth or Consequences, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the New
Mexico State Veterans Home. He
was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Chicago, IL, to Emil and Catherine I. (Puhalak)
Maksa. The U.S. Army veteran
served during World War II. He
was in construction most of his life.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Adams, and
his nephew, Gerald J. Adams, both of LaGrange Park, IL.
Burial was in Saint Mary Cemetery in Evergreen
Park, IL, on Thursday, April 15. Local

Mars,
79, of Williamsburg, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at her home.
She was born June 17, 1924, in Lincoln, NE, to Dewey Z. and Mae
(Murphy) Marx. She attended
the University of Nebraska more than two years studying speech and drama.
She finished her college degree at age 66 at the University of New
Mexico in Silver City majoring in academic studies of Spanish and History.
Survivors include her brother, William E. Marx of
West Covina, CA; her cousin, Dr. D. James McCabe and his wife Marla of
Lincoln, NE; and her friend, Rosa Albidrez Acuna of Silver City, NM.
No services are planned at this time.

Teresa Munoz, 58, of
Truth or Consequences, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Memorial
Medical Center in Las Cruces. She
was born April 27, 1945, in San Carlos, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Margarita M.
Munoz. As a young teenager
her family moved to Deming where she lived more than 25 years.
She was employed at the Safeway stores as a cashier and eventually
relocated to T or C where she lived the last 18 years.
Survivors
include her mother, Margarita M. Candelaria and husband Henry of T or C;
her sister, Alice M. Gonzales of Albuquerque; two nieces, Margaret G.
Denton and husband Richard, and Jeanette B. Gonzales, both of Albuquerque;
a great niece, Kaitlyn B. Denton; and a great nephew, Tomas Augustine
Denton, both of Albuquerque.
Funeral
mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Friday, April 2) at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Catholic Church in T or C with Rev. Don Hyatt officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Mountain View Cemetery in
Deming. Arrangements are by
Sierra Funeral Home of T or C.

Mae Carter, 80, died
Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or
Consequences. She was born
Oct. 15, 1923, in Terrell, TX. She
was a homemaker whose life evolved around her children and their
activities.
Survivors
include her three sons, Tim Carter of Elephant Butte, Dean Carter and wife
Trisha of Orlando, FL, and Gary Carter and wife Bernadette of Phoenix, AZ;
his daughter, Jackie Hess and husband Ron of Vancouver, WA; six
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Jack W. Carter, and her parents preceded her in death.
Burial
will be beside her husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery during private
family services. Arrangements

Marie “Willie” Terrill,
99, of Truth or Consequences, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at the Sierra
Health Care Center. She was
born Oct. 4, 1904, in Taintor, Iowa, to John and Dora (Scharff) Molenburg. She married Dale Terrill on March 4, 1950, in Compton, CA.
She loved to crochet, knit and work puzzles.
Survivors
include her son, Dale R. Griggs and wife Delores of T or C; three
granddaughters; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, her
parents, two brothers and two sisters.
No

Saturday, March 27, 2004, at the Mountain View Regional Medical Center in
Las Cruces. She was born Jan.
3, 1922, in Detroit, MI, to Gardner and Marie A. (Valentine) Schultz.
She was a homemaker.

include her daughter, Pamela Hayo and husband Carl of Hillsboro, NM; her
son, Charles Decoster and wife Jane, of Seattle, WA; and her
granddaughter, Barbara Meskers of Kent, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1997, her

C. Johnson, 91, of Truth or Consequences, died Saturday, March 20, 2004,
while residing at the New Mexico State Veterans Home. He was born Oct. 27, 1912, in Plains, MT, where he spent most
of his life, to Thomas Dorrison and Mary Adelaide (Daniels) Johnson. He
was veteran of the U.S. Army, receiving the American Theater Service

M. Lohr, 50, died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on
Saturday, March 20, 2004. He
was born Aug. 17, 1953, in Jacksonville, FL, to Clair Winston and Hazel
Gilley Lohr. He was a long
time member of the First Foursquare Church in Jacksonville.
He loved many things in life, his family, horses, art, photography
and exploring the never-ending mountains of New Mexico.
Survivors include his parents, Clair and Hazel Lohr of
Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Roy W. Lohr of T or C and John M. Lohr of
Jacksonville, FL;; two sisters, Sandra J. Wilson and Cathy A. Atkinson,

Evelyn Woolard, 90, formerly of Truth or Consequences, died Monday, March 22,
2004 while residing at her nephew’s home in Mountain Home, AR.

She was born March 30, 1913, in Felsburg, Kansas, to Clarence
Clayton and Anna Lois (McCarty) Weese. n April 13, 1984, She married
Robert William Woolard April 13, 1984, in Florence, AZ.
The couple moved to T or C in 1992 and were members of the Church
of Christ.
She is survived by her nephew, Stephen Weese of Mountain Home, AR;
two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild. She
was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son and one brother.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, at the Church of
Christ on East Third Street in T or C with Mr. A. C. Morris officiating.
She was laid to rest beside her husband at Vista Memory Gardens
Cemetery in T or C. Arrangements

Lena Harrington, 96, of Tucson, AZ, died March 7, 2004.
She was born March 22, 1907, in Abernathy, TX, to Lemuel and Mackie
Virginia (Scott) Ragland. She
was a Bible schoolteacher most of her life, following her husband's
pastoral work in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
They moved to Truth or Consequences, NM, in 1971 where he was
pastor at the First Assembly of God Church.
They later moved to Tucson in 1986.
Survivors include her daughter, Louise
Brock of Tucson; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Harrington of Elephant Butte,
NM; sisters, Beunah Chaney and Josie Thomas of Elkhart, TX, and Virginia
Boyd of Petersburg, TX; grandchildren, Bruce (Kathy) Brock, Brian
(Jennifer) Brock, all of Tucson, Greg (Carrie) Harrington of Truth or
Consequences, and Melissa (Jeff) Henry of Albuquerque, NM; ten
great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Walker Harrington,
on May 10, 1998, and earlier by a son, Paul Walker Harrington, Jr.

March 10, at Faith Community Church in Tucson, AZ. Mrs. Harrington will be laid to rest beside her husband at

M. Snyder, 77, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at her daughter's
home in Truth or Consequences, NM. She
was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Condon, OR, to Willard Warren and Alice Loa (Crall)
Keeney. She married Sam
Irving Snyder on May 19, 1943, in Condon.
She was a homemaker and was very supportive of her children through
4H leadership. Her family
memoirs and genealogy are written in a book, Wagon Ruts West,
written by her brother Ralph Keeney.
She lived in Oregon most of her life and moved to her daughter’s
home in T or C when she became ill with cancer.
Survivors include her son, Michael Ray
Snyder of Irrigon, OR; her daughter, Alice E. Bryan of T or C; her two
brothers, Ralph Ray Keeney of The Dalles, OR, and William Warren Keeney of
Klamath Falls, OR; three sisters, Ida Dee Kelty of LaGrande, OR, Billie
Fae Lacey of Heppner, OR, and Bessie Jo Lamoreaux of Renton, WA; eight
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, in 1987, her
parents, and one brother, Jack LeRoy Keeney.
Services will be held in Irrigon, OR,
where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Sam.

commercial truck driver most of his life.
He greatly enjoyed traveling all over the country on back roads and

Harold Roberts, 82, of
Caballo, NM, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at his home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Muleshoe, TX, to Charles and Henreitta
(Metcalf) Witty. He married
Lois Louise Jones on June 20, 1942, in Cross Plains, Texas.
They raised one son and two daughters.
Frank was a heavy equipment operator most of his life.

Shelton of Albuquerque; his son, William H. Roberts and wife Mary of
Caballo; his four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his devoted

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

94, of Truth or Consequences, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, while residing
at the Sierra Heath Care Center.

He
was born Aug. 12, 1909, in Brooklyn, NY, to Antonio N. and Louise (Adamo)
DeLilla. He married Loretta
Watts on Sept. 7, 1941, in Long Island, NY.
He was a machinist employed by Grumman Aerospace most of his life. His work moved him to Las Cruces in 1964 where he worked on
the lunar excursion module. In
1969, he and his wife relocated to Houston, finally retiring to Las Cruces
in 1973. In November 2003
they both moved to Truth or Consequences to live with their daughter.
He enjoyed solving math problems and working with wood.
Survivors include his wife,
Loretta W. DeLilla of T or C; his son, Edward Anthony DeLilla and wife
Helen of Burnside, Christchurch, New Zealand; his daughter, Louise
"Pat" Predmore and husband Jerry of T or C; his brother, Thomas
DeLilla of Freeport, NY; his sister, Matilda Wernert of Kings Park, NY;
six grandchildren, Clint Langdon, Clayton Langdon, Justin Predmore, Leslie

great-grandchildren.

She married John T. Tenorio on March 18, 1944, in Raton, NM.

“Bill” H. Thomas, 65, of Truth or Consequences, died
Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at his home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Estancia, NM, to J. Jay and Lottie L.
(Hamby) Thomas. He married
Betty R. McElroy on Dec. 4, 1958, in Bernalillo, NM.
He enjoyed wood chipping and created many beautiful pieces to share
with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling and square dancing.
He placed 2nd in the National Horse Shoe Pitching
Contest in 1993. He owned and
operated the Thomas Construction Company in Edgewood for many years.
After retirement in 1995, he moved to T or C.
Survivors include his wife, Betty R.
Thomas, of the family home in T or C; two sons, David R. Thomas & wife
Virginia of Edgewood, and William Troy Thomas of Albuquerque; two

Harold
Joe Waldrum, 69, of Truth or Consequences, died Saturday, Dec.
13, 2003, at the Albuquerque Regional Medical Center after a brief
illness. He was born Aug. 23,
1934, in Savoy, TX, to Milburn Whitt and Ruth Bernice (Patillo) Waldrum.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Western State College in
Gunnison, CO. He taught music
and art in the Kansas public school system for 16 years.
He later earned a master's degree in studio painting from Fort Hays
State College in Kansas in 1970. He
also worked towards his Ph.D. in psychology.
He later lived in New York City, Taos and Tesuque, finally settling
in Truth or Consequences where he owned and operated Rio Bravo Fine Arts
Gallery on Broadway the last six years.
He was perhaps best known for his jewel-tone paintings of northern
New Mexico churches and his crusade to save them from destruction.
He was a past president of the New Mexico Architectural Foundation.
In 1994, he penned "Ando en Cueros" which received
national acclaim.
Survivors include his son, Kriss
Waldrum of Campbell, CA; his daughter, Ruanna Waldrum of Albany, CA; a
brother, Charles Waldrum; and his sister, Linda Waldrum, both of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Whitt
Waldrum.
Graveside services were held Friday,
Dec. 19, 2003, at the Valley Heights Cemetery in Columbus, NM.

Billy
Douglas Howard, 73, of Truth or Consequences, died Wednesday,
Dec. 17, 2003, at his home. He
was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Guyman, OK, to William Frank and Velma (Walker)
Howard. He was a Korean
Conflict veteran of the U.S. Navy and was decorated with the Navy
Occupation Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Ribbon.
He was a self-employed general contractor and rancher most of his
life. He was a charter member
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and he worked at the Hot Springs Trading
Post.
Survivors include his two daughters,
Donna Howard and Kim Diethrich, both of T or C; six grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Local services are pending.
Burial will be in the family plot in Garden City, Kansas.

Ted
Eugene Brisbin, 77, of Truth or Consequences, died Monday, Dec.
15, 2003, at the New Mexico State Veterans Home.

He was born June 6, 1926, in Duke, OK, to Marvin E. and Berkie Mae
(Smalling) Brisbin. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II and the Korean
Conflict. He was awarded the
Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal with One Bronze Star, World War II Victory
Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Bronze Star, Combat Infantry
Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the American Theater Ribbon.
He was a teacher and assistant principal in the Ysleta Independent
School District in El Paso, TX, for many years.
A charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he enjoyed
fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of many
years, Rose Marie Brisbin, of the family home in Elephant Butte; his son,
Terrance Brisbin & wife Susan of Mansfield, TX; his daughter, Cheryl
L. Gilliland & husband Craig of El Paso, TX; five grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gerald and Lynn Brisbin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Gerald L.
Brisbin.
Memorial services will be held at 2
p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, in the Sierra Funeral Home Chapel in T or C with
Rev. Shon Wagner of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery in T or C
during private graveside services. Arrangements

Kay
Dene Davis,
68, of Truth or Consequences, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Sierra Vista
Hospital in Truth or Consequences, NM.

She
was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Borger, Texas, the only child of O.W. Jack and
Anna Blanche (Brooks) Tipton. She
was a registered nurse most of her life, working many years as the
Director of Nursing at the Good Samaritan in Hobbs.
She was a member of the Church or Christ.
She married John Davis on July 18, 1998, in Lovington, NM.
Kay greatly enjoyed crafting including painting and firing ceramics
and crocheting. She was known
for playing a lively game of Yahtzee, cooking and traveling.
Survivors
include her husband, John Davis of Truth or Consequences; her three sons,
Warren Taylor and wife Raylene of Snyder, TX, David Taylor of Trinidad,
CO, and Chris Taylor and wife Jean of Mustang, OK; her daughter Debbie
Turner and husband Mitch of Lubbock, TX; 17 grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation
will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Sierra Funeral
Home in T or C. Funeral
services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at the University Church
of Christ in Lubbock, TX. Her
cousin, Clark Johnson, will officiate at the service.
Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren.
Burial will follow services that same afternoon at the Memory
Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, TX, where she will be laid to rest beside her
father. Arrangements are by

Susan Lee Fancher, 61, died Nov. 27, 2003, at Sierra Vista Hospital in
Truth or Consequences, NM. She
lived in Carrizozo and near Hillsboro, NM, since the early 1990s.
Survivors include her husband, Ben; her son, Ben
Overson and wife Sara of Kingman, AZ; her daughter, Liz Hofferber of
Prescott, AZ; three grandchildren, Jack, Mackenzie and Taylor Overson of
Kingman, AZ; anda host of friends scattered from New Mexico to California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Sophie
Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 6, in the Chapel of French Mortuary of T or C Inc., 303 N. Cedar St.
in Truth or Consequences. Flowers or a charity of choice in her honor both
will be received with immense gratitude by friends and family.

Arlyss Edward
Boyenga, 81, died Nov. 21, 2003, at his daughter's home in
Caballo, NM.
He was born May 7, 1922, in Geneva, Iowa, to Edward
Russell and Tena (Bleeker) Boyenga. He
was a World War II veteran of the U.S Army Air Corps, having served as a
tail-gunner and fighter airplane mechanic.
Honorably discharged as a corporal, he was decorated with the World
War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and a Lapel Button.
He retired from the Rath Packing Company.
Survivors include his two daughters, Laurel J.
Swainston and husband Craig of Caballo, and Marlys J. Johnson and husband
Rev. Jerry L. Johnson of New Hampshire; two sons, Phillip Joseph Boyenga
and Gregory John Boyenga, both of Waterloo, IA; two sisters, Betty Wilkens
and husband James of Marshall Town, IA, and Marion Bodecker of Waterloo,
IA; two brothers, Alvin Boyenga of Ackley, IA, and Edward R. Boyenga of
Waterloo, IA; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
His wife, Gail Murray, brother Edward Russell and his
parents, Edward and Tina, preceded him in death.
He was laid to rest at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery in
Truth or Consequences during private family services.
